Album "Following....." out June 1st!

THAT’s a fact

I was a drinker - the worst that you’ve seen –
Drinkin’ or sleepin’, and no in-between –
Diggin’ my very own grave, to be sure –
Cravin’ the poison, and cussin’ the cure -

I look back now, through the lens of hindsight –
Twenty-plus years with that bottle shut tight –
Naught but the Grace of God kept me upright –
That’s a fact!

I blamed it on women (they came to mind first),
And money (or lack of), and swore I was cursed –
My misery’s author, I thought, had no name,
But lo and behold! His and mine were the same!

Strange to me now, how all that’s so clear -
Turns out, though I searched that bottle for years,
The “Genie of Truth” ain’t in there, but out here!
That’s a fact!

One was enough, and two was too many,
But three wasn’t near enough - like I hadn’t had any!
God blessed the day He took hold of my hand,
And granted me my undeserved “second chance” -

There is no doubt - I wouldn’t be here, if He’d not -
The self-drowning fool that I was would have been dead on the spot -

All in my past, now, those dim, foggy days -
Memories are gauzy, like dreams, in that way -
Life is much dearer to my clearer eyes -
So much more precious than I’d then surmised -

Treasure, indeed, what brief time I have left -
Don’t know how much, but know all of it’s blessed -
If age is a privilege, as I’ve heard it told,
Then I count these days as more precious than gold!

That’s a fact!
Lord knows, that’s a fact!
